I like the multiband version of this plugin better because I often use it just on the mids or highs rather than the full signal. That being said if you are very happy with SE2 I doubt you need this one. I like to use it on Chords to give the rest of my song some "space". That way as my incoming signal increases in volume it has more gates which thus decrease the overall volume and drops below the threshold. You can set it up so that as the incoming audio passes a certain db threshold only then it triggers the trance gate. One of my favorite ways to use it is with the trance gates or filter gates and the Audio Signal Follower. With MRhythmizer you can trigger by MIDI, LFO (which can also be used like a step sequencer with custom patterns), Audio Signal Follower, ADSR Envelope, or even the Pitch of the incoming note signal. In SE1 the only way to trigger events is MIDI. It does have more and more complex modulators at least than Stutter Edit 1.
